Zu'an sighed in relief. It seemed another unfortunate soul had exposed themselves. He thought, "I knew 'Bright Mirror is Not a Stand' was reliable."
But why did that figure look a little familiar?
As the person fled swiftly, a sharp whistle suddenly pierced the air. A teacup lid spun rapidly as it shot out from the house.
Its speed was so great that its trajectory was almost impossible to discern.
In the blink of an eye, the teacup lid, though launched later, struck the shadowy figure directly in the back.
"Ah~" With a soft cry, the shadowy figure fell from mid-air.
Zu'an's expression changed. The voice was even more familiar, and the proud chest, which even the night clothes couldn't conceal, indicated that it was someone he knew well.
Just then, the sinister voice from inside the house rang out: "Dabao, I'll leave what's happening outside to you."
"Yes, Godfather, please rest well. Your son will surely capture that assassin and bring her to you for judgment!" This must be Wei Dabao, the patriarch of the Wei family from Bright Moon City.
Immediately after, hurried footsteps were heard coming out.
Zu'an, meanwhile, became extremely vigilant and carefully moved away from the corner of the wall.
The sinister individual inside had just severely wounded that person from such a distance with only a teacup lid. Such cultivation was terrifying. If Zu'an dared to make even the slightest sound, he would most likely be dead.
It wasn't until he had completely exited the courtyard's perimeter that he finally breathed a sigh of relief, then hurried in a certain direction.
A graceful figure stumbled and ran amidst the rockeries. She had just barely escaped the encirclement of a group of guards, but unfortunately, she was already at the end of her rope.
The mysterious person's recent attack had almost dispersed all her essence energy. Even so, she was severely wounded and likely wouldn't escape today.
Just then, she felt her hand being grabbed. Startled, she was about to turn and attack, but then she saw an unexpected face.
"Follow me!" Zu'an said.
The woman in front of him was masked, but her familiar eyes and the prominent curves of her chest profoundly betrayed her identity.
Who else could it be but Big Manman!
There was no time to ask why she was there, as guards appeared not far away. He grabbed her hand and ran.
Pei Mianman recognized him and stopped resisting, following him as they fled through the night.
He wasn't familiar with the Wei family estate. Feeling that Wei family guards were everywhere, and even the Wei family patriarch was personally leading the pursuit, he had no choice but to take Pei Mianman back to his own room.
Not long after, the main door was violently forced open from outside. A group of people carrying torches and swords directly barged in.
Leading them was a middle-aged man who bore some resemblance to Wei Hongde. He must be Wei Dabao, the patriarch of the Wei family.
"Brother Wei, what is this...?" Zu'an, now undressed and in the bathtub, looked at Wei Hongde with a "startled" expression.
Wei Hongde said apologetically, "I'm sorry, Brother Zu. There's been an assassin incident in the house, and we were worried the assassin might disturb you, so we came to check."
"Who would be so audacious as to cause trouble in the Wei family?" Zu'an inwardly sneered. It was clear they suspected the assassin was here; otherwise, why would they directly break down the door to enter?
"We're not sure, only that it was a woman," Wei Hongde said, then introduced them. "Father, this is Zu'an; he brought my younger brother back today."
Wei Dabao nodded, "The Chu family's son-in-law is truly an impressive talent."
Zu'an hastily said, "Greetings, Uncle. However, in my current state, it might be inconvenient for me to stand and bow. I hope you don't mind."
Wei Hongde quickly interjected, "No need to get up, no need."
He certainly didn't want a repeat of what he saw last time in the secret realm.
Blast it, it came back to him again!
Wei Dabao also walked over and said, "Oh, you're too polite. My son Suo'er has received much care from you at school. We really should find a chance to properly thank you."
As he spoke, he looked around, finally approaching the bathtub and peering inside.
What he didn't expect was a large amount of flower petals on the water's surface, making it impossible to see what was inside.
This didn't deter him. He quietly extended his vital energy, probing into the water. Finding no one inside, he secretly nodded. "Alright, you get some good rest. We still need to search for the assassin elsewhere."
As if oblivious to what had just happened, Zu'an smiled and waved his hand, "I won't see you out."
The group left, and the house servants, being discreet, pulled the door shut for him.
After exiting, Wei Hongde asked, "Father, did you find anything?"
Wei Dabao shook his head, "There's no one else inside. I must have been overthinking it."
"The assassin was a woman, so it really shouldn't have anything to do with him," Wei Hongde echoed.
"Search elsewhere. I refuse to believe a severely wounded female assassin can get far," Wei Dabao snorted, and with his subordinates, resumed the search.
Once he was sure they were gone, Zu'an quickly helped Pei Mianman out of the bathtub. "How are you?"
Seeing her semi-conscious, he quickly pressed on her chest, helping her to expel water.
"Cough, cough~" Pei Mianman coughed out a few mouthfuls of water and finally regained consciousness.
Zu'an smiled slightly, "If you didn't wake up soon, I was going to give you mouth-to-mouth."
Pei Mianman weakly rolled her eyes at him. "You always have to be so improper."
Leaning on the edge of the bathtub, she looked out. "By the way, how did you hide from them just now? With the Wei family patriarch's cultivation, he surely would have noticed someone in the water."
"I don't know, maybe he felt inferior looking at my strong pectoral muscles and got flustered, so he couldn't check carefully," Zu'an chuckled. In truth, he had used his Blue Flute Water Control ability to shield her presence from the patriarch's vital energy sense, but it was hard to explain such a thing to her.
Pei Mianman turned to see his bare body, and a blush flashed across her cheeks. "Help me up quickly."
"Oh, right." Staying in the water wasn't a solution. Zu'an quickly got up to help her.
Because she had just been in the water, Pei Mianman's clothes were completely soaked and clung tightly to her body, revealing her graceful figure in full.
As Zu'an supported her, the warm, soft touch against his palm made him instantly stiffen.
Pei Mianman accidentally glanced downwards and her heart pounded in fright, thinking, *Men are all... all like this...*
Zu'an was also a bit embarrassed. "Sorry, it wasn't intentional."
Pei Mianman didn't respond. She just climbed out of the bathtub, her face flushed. After a moment, to break the awkward silence, she asked, "By the way, why are you here?"
Zu'an replied, half-truthfully and half-falsely, "I brought the drunk Wei Suo back, and he threw up all over me, so I came here to bathe and change, and stay for the night. I heard the mansion was catching an assassin, so I curiously went to look and found it was you."
"It seems we truly have a connection," Pei Mianman couldn't help but exclaim. "If it weren't for you today, I might have been captured here."
Zu'an laughed heartily. "They say destiny brings people together, no matter how far apart."
Pei Mianman leaned against a nearby pillar and glared at him playfully. "Does Chu Yan know you flirt with me like this in private?"
Zu'an smiled. "You were clearly the one who initiated the teasing in the first place."
Pei Mianman snorted, "I always feel like I've fallen right into your trap."
Originally, she had thought that with her beauty and charm, dealing with an unregarded son-in-law would be effortless, a mere plaything in her hands.
But after several encounters, she instead felt like *she* was the one being played.
Zu'an helped her sit down nearby. "By the way, why did you come to the Wei family this time?"
"To find something," Pei Mianman replied.
Zu'an's heart skipped a beat. Could their objectives be the same?
He quickly asked, "What are you looking for?"
Pei Mianman's answer was just as direct: "I'm not telling you."
Zu'an looked frustrated. "I saved your life, and we're such good friends. You're not even going to tell me this?"
Pei Mianman, her face somewhat pale from her injuries, turned to him. Her usual smiling 'peach blossom' eyes held no smile now. "You haven't told me the whole truth either, have you?"
