Chapter 1799: One Look, Ten Thousand Years

Chu Chuyan and Pei Mianman, being intelligent, quickly added, “We were entrusted by Bao Gu, which is why we had to offend you, Immortal, and we hope you will forgive us.”

Are you kidding? Feeling this terrifying pressure, wouldn't confronting him be a definite death wish?

Their marital disputes were for them to resolve; the two women certainly didn't want to be unfairly implicated.

As expected, upon hearing Bao Gu’s name, Immortal Baopu’s indifferent eyes showed a flicker of emotion. “So it was her. She holds a grudge against me, and it’s only right that she slapped me twice.”

The Ghost King’s eyes widened instantly, thinking, *You, a venerable Immortal, just accept being slapped twice? How pathetic!*

He had hoped to see the Immortal and Zu An’s group slaughter each other, preferably with Zhao Hao being slapped to death as well. But who knew the two sides were now discussing a shared history?

*The situation is now unfavorable for me.*

He considered leaving, but such a move would create a large disturbance, and he feared incurring the Immortal’s wrath. He decided to stay and observe the situation first.

Zhao Hao’s brows were tightly furrowed. Chu Chuyan and Pei Mianman actually knew the Immortal’s wife and had received her legacy. Wasn’t this what they called ‘fated individuals’?

*If the immortal fortune were to be bestowed upon them...*

A chill flashed in Zhao Hao’s eyes. He was determined to obtain the immortal fortune, no matter what. He would kill any god that blocked him, and any Buddha that stood in his way.

Just then, Jing Teng’s excited voice rang out: “Immortal, have you returned?”

Immortal Baopu’s gaze fell upon her, and he smiled slightly. “Ah, little Teng. This is merely a wisp of my separated soul from back then…”

Zu An and Qiu Honglei exchanged glances, confirming their thought that she indeed shared a close relationship with Immortal Baopu.

Zhao Hao’s heart stirred. *A wisp of a separated soul… While he is no match for a true immortal, a mere wisp might not be invincible.*

The Ghost King’s eyes, meanwhile, gleamed. *If the opponent is only a wisp of a separated soul, my Demonic Soul Absorption technique will be the perfect counter.*

However, fearing the opponent might have a hidden ace, he dared not make a move for the time being.

Just then, Immortal Baopu’s expression suddenly changed. “Why are you so much weaker?”

Jing Teng softly replied, “It’s only because I failed to heed your teachings back then. I encountered the wrong person and too easily placed my trust in others.”

Immortal Baopu didn’t press for specific details. After a long pause, he sighed. “Back then, I divined your fortune, and it was fated that you would encounter this tribulation. However, since you have now managed to reach this place, it proves that good fortune follows extreme adversity. There’s no longer any need to grieve over the past.”

“Hmm,” Jing Teng nodded, then approached Zu An. “This time, it’s thanks to Young Master Zu’s rescue and escort along the way that I was able to arrive safely here.”

Qiu Honglei said nothing.

*So, I was just invisible this whole journey, was I? Not long ago, I was even shining light for you like a lamp. You ungrateful wretch.*

Though she felt annoyed, knowing that Jing Teng’s action would greatly benefit Zu An, she naturally refrained from showing it.

Zhao Hao and the Ghost King were both startled. Jing Teng’s statement was clearly an attempt to credit Zu An, hoping to gain the Immortal’s favor for him, perhaps even leading to the immortal fortune being directly passed on to him.

*This is utterly unfair! Can immortal fortune truly be influenced by personal connections?*

Zhao Hao’s eyelids twitched even more. He recalled earlier intelligence about Zu An, which highlighted his peculiar talent for relying on women for support.

At the time, he had dismissed it somewhat, thinking that personal strength was paramount and that one couldn’t achieve anything significant solely by relying on women.

But now he realized he was wrong, and spectacularly so!

Jing Teng subtly tugged Zu An’s sleeve, prompting him to speak.

Zu An then respectfully bowed to the Immortal. “Greetings, Immortal!”

Immortal Baopu scrutinized him, then nodded involuntarily. “He is indeed handsome and dignified.”

Qiu Honglei, Chu Chuyan, and Pei Mianman all exchanged odd glances, wondering if this was some sort of selection for a son-in-law.

Just then, Immortal Baopu suddenly frowned. “Unfortunately, his romantic entanglements are too numerous; he is not a suitable match.”

Zu An was speechless.

The women were speechless.

Zhao Hao and the Ghost King almost burst out laughing. They had been somewhat envious of the young man’s bevy of admirers, but now that very trait had become a hindrance.

Jing Teng blushed deeply. “Immortal, I was merely thanking him for escorting me here. What are you thinking?”

Immortal Baopu stroked his beard and chuckled. “Everyone has their own unique fate. You will understand in time.”

After saying this, he stopped explaining to Jing Teng and instead looked at Chu Chuyan and Pei Mianman. “Could you describe in detail your encounter with Bao Gu?”

“In detail?” Chu Chuyan immediately looked troubled. Admitting in front of so many people how she and Pei Mianman had mutually saved each other was far too embarrassing.

Pei Mianman also blushed deeply. While it wouldn’t have been a problem to tell only Zu An, with so many outsiders present, she wasn’t that thick-skinned.

Noting their expressions, Immortal Baopu’s heart stirred. With a wave of his hand, he conjured a halo of light around the two women. “Don’t worry,” he assured them, “they cannot hear what you say now.”

Only then did the two women breathe a sigh of relief, and somewhat bashfully began recounting, starting from the moment they were struck by the Ghost King’s Eternal Sleep Gaze.

Zu An saw the halo of light encircling the two women and immediately felt a pang of anxiety. Jing Teng quickly reassured him, “Don’t worry, Brother Zu, the Immortal won’t trouble them.”

Zu An noticed that the halo was almost transparent, allowing him to see the two women speaking to Immortal Baopu, though he couldn’t hear their words. Only then did he finally relax.

Qiu Honglei’s ears, however, suddenly perked up. She had been calling him ‘Young Master Zu’ just moments ago, and now it was ‘Brother Zu’?

She couldn’t help but cast a sideways glance at Jing Teng. Who was truly older was still debatable; based on Jing Teng’s recounted experiences, she might well be old enough for their group to call her ‘Grandma.’

She was clearly advanced in age, yet she was calling a young man in his teens or twenties ‘Big Brother.’ How shameless. It was like an old cucumber painted green, trying to look young.

From a distance, Zhao Hao’s expression flickered erratically. He thought that if the immortal fortune truly went to those two women, he could simply seize it from them. This wisp of Immortal Baopu’s separated soul shouldn’t last indefinitely.

Later, he could even use Zu An as leverage. He didn’t believe the two women wouldn’t reveal the truth then.

The Ghost King, however, realized something was amiss. Those two women had previously fallen victim to his Eternal Sleep Gaze, and now they had met Immortal Baopu’s wife…

For some reason, he had a strong sense of impending doom. Seizing this opportunity, he transformed into a mass of black mist and attempted to flee.

But just as he reached the entrance, the bronze door suddenly slammed shut.

With a thud, the Ghost King slammed into it, dazed and trapped inside the room.

The Ghost King was utterly bewildered. What was happening? In his current form, he should have been able to pass directly through any door.

His heart skipped a beat. He quickly turned to look towards the bronze coffin, only to see that the halo around Chu Chuyan and Pei Mianman had already dissipated, and Immortal Baopu was glaring at him with ill intent.

“You prevented me from seeing Bao Gu one last time! Damn you!”

Having conceded repeatedly only to face such an outcome, the usually arrogant Ghost King was now enraged. “Hmph,” he scoffed, “if your true form were here, I might fear you somewhat. But now, you are merely a wisp of lingering consciousness, boasting shamelessly.”

As soon as he finished speaking, black mist suddenly surged from his body. Countless skull heads materialized, each opening its maw to unleash terrifying, piercing shrieks.

*A mere wisp of lingering consciousness, no more than a concept of a soul, would certainly be vulnerable to my techniques.*

“Demonic Soul Absorption!”

Zhao Hao was startled and quickly summoned the Human Emperor Seal, holding it above his head to shield his spirit.

Zu An and his group’s expressions also changed drastically; they had seen firsthand how formidable this technique was.

“It’s nothing,” Immortal Baopu said, his expression calm as he gazed steadily towards the Ghost King.

The invisible demonic sounds howled forth, but several yards in front of him, they were suddenly obstructed by something unseen.

A golden barrier of light seemed to shimmer in the air. The demonic sounds struck against this barrier, forming ripples, but ultimately vanished without a trace.

Everyone was aghast, amazed that the demonic sounds they had feared so greatly were blocked with such ease.

Zhao Hao, more than anyone, was captivated. In that fleeting moment, perhaps others with lower cultivation didn’t perceive it, but he faintly sensed the power of interwoven laws.

*Could this be the path forward?*

The Ghost King had initially intended to fight this wisp of the Immortal’s lingering consciousness, but realizing how formidable the opponent was, he no longer harbored any thoughts of continuing the battle.

The black mist directly condensed into two large hands, attempting to push open the tomb door and flee.

Just then, Immortal Baopu took a step forward. His eyes suddenly flickered like fading stars, and his gaze enveloped the vast expanse of black mist and skull heads.

“No!” the Ghost King shrieked, struggling frantically. The black mist contorted into various terrifying spells, bombarding the surroundings.

Yet, he seemed to be sealed off by some spatial force. No matter how he attacked, he couldn’t break through the confining gaze surrounding him.

Cold sweat dripped down Zhao Hao’s back. Just moments ago, these were the very attacks the Ghost King had used to overwhelm him, forcing him to rely on the Human Emperor Seal and various magical artifacts to barely cope.

*Wait, many of those techniques the Ghost King was now using, he hadn’t employed against me earlier.*

*And now, even with his full might, he seems utterly incapable of resisting this mere wisp of the Immortal’s lingering consciousness?*

Immortal Baopu closed his eyes. The next second, the vast expanse of black mist and skull heads completely vanished.

With just a single gaze, the strongest being of this era, the master of the Yin-Yang realm, was directly suppressed.

Zu An watched, his heart stirring. He suddenly felt as though he had opened a door to a new world. So, even eyes could be used as weapons, like swords!
