Chapter 907: Head Seven Night

Sang Qian was caught off guard, pulled into the coffin. Her heart pounded. She then felt the other person hold her hand, which startled her even more: Was this guy trying to take advantage of her?

In such a small, confined space, they were already forced to be very close. With people from the Qi King's mansion outside, she couldn't make a sound. So, if he were to take advantage of her at that moment, she would be completely helpless.

Just then, she heard the other person's vital energy transmission in her ear: "Your heartbeat is too fast. I'll help you calm down."

Sang Qian was startled, then realized a warm current flowed from her palm throughout her body. Soon, her rapid breathing unconsciously calmed down.

She finally realized that he was worried her rapid heartbeat would be noticed by the people from the Qi King's mansion outside.

"Oh no, what was I just thinking? How embarrassing."

"What's wrong? Your heart seems to be beating faster again?" Zu'an's puzzled voice came.

Sang Qian's face flushed slightly. She quickly shook her head and turned her face away, only to be startled by the face of the Qi King's concubine, Lan Youyou.

She realized the coffin must be specially made, with a cooling effect. Faint blue magic lines gave off a subtle blue light inside the coffin, allowing her to see the concubine's face quite clearly.

Although she usually practiced forensics and wasn't afraid of corpses, she had never experienced lying in a coffin next to one. Given the surroundings, the corpse's icy blue face was particularly unsettling, making her instinctively lean closer to Zu'an. The warmth from his body strangely reassured her.

Just then, a familiar voice came from outside: "Everyone, hurry up and check everywhere for any hidden dangers. That Zu'an fellow was clamoring to examine the concubine's body during the day; don't let him find any loopholes."

"Yes!" came the guards' synchronized replies from around them. They then dispersed, evidently searching the area.

Sang Qian's expression changed. She silently mouthed to Zu'an: "Han Fengqiu?"

Being in the capital, she naturally knew about this renowned guest advisor in the Qi King's mansion.

As her cultivation was insufficient, she worried a peak ninth-grade master might detect her vital energy transmission at such close range. So, she resorted to mouthing the words. Fearing he still might not understand, she simultaneously wrote on his chest with her fingertip.

Zu'an instinctively reached for her slightly raised chest, intending to write a reply. However, he immediately realized his action, gave an awkward smile, and quickly transmitted through vital energy: "You're right. He likely suspects I might try to investigate covertly, so he's here to ensure absolute security."

Sang Qian's face flushed slightly, clearly noticing the small incident. But she had no choice and continued to write: "What do we do now? Will we be discovered?"

"Don't worry, these people from the Qi King's mansion won't come to inspect the concubine's coffin," Zu'an replied.

They were already close, and Zu'an, also worried about being detected by Han Fengqiu, instinctively leaned close to Sang Qian's ear to speak.

Sang Qian's ears were already extremely sensitive. Feeling the warm breath exhaled by him as he spoke, she felt a tingling sensation spread from her ear throughout her body, and her heart inexplicably quickened again.

Just then, a guard's exclamation suddenly came from outside: "Han... Han... Master Han!"

"What's wrong?" Han Fengqiu asked, a bit displeased at being addressed in such a stammering manner by his subordinate.

The guard stammered: "Over by the coffin... here... the concubine's clothing is exposed."

Both inside the coffin were startled. Zu'an looked up and saw a corner of the concubine's skirt caught under the coffin lid. He figured Sang Qian must have accidentally left it there while examining the body earlier and then hurried into the coffin so quickly that she didn't have time to fix it.

Zu'an quickly pulled the skirt corner inside. At the same time, Han Fengqiu's voice came from nearby; he had clearly followed them to this spot: "Where is it? I don't see anything."

"It was just... just here a moment ago," the guard said, pointing to a spot on the coffin lid, his voice growing more frantic. "Master Han, today is the seventh day after death; could it be a ghost?"

"Nonsense, how could there be ghosts!" Han Fengqiu snorted. Footsteps sounded, and he walked up to the coffin, placing his hand on it.

Sang Qian's heart was pounding, her eyes filled with panic: "What do we do? What do we do?"

But she immediately froze as he tightly pulled her into his embrace.

Sang Qian's mind went blank. At a time like this, he's still taking advantage of me?

However, she quickly dismissed that thought. After spending some time with him, she knew that while he might not be a perfect gentleman, he certainly understood priorities. There had to be a reason for his actions.

Zu'an was a bit surprised; he had expected her to struggle. Her cooperation saved him a lot of trouble, so he fully activated "Bright Mirror, Not a Stand" to make their presences undetectable.

Han Fengqiu felt around the coffin for a moment, then opened his eyes after a pause: "If there were anyone alive inside, they wouldn't escape my senses. And this coffin lid..."

He pushed it while speaking, finding the coffin lid completely still: "See? It's perfectly sealed. Don't imagine things."

"But I clearly just..." The guard's words were cut short by the laughter of other guards nearby:

"You're always a coward; you probably just imagined it."

"Yeah, you were just muttering about today being the seventh day, afraid the concubine's ghost would come back."

"Isn't this what the storytellers at Tianqiao call 'suspicion creating ghosts'?"

Hearing the laughter around him, the guard's face turned red with embarrassment. He just assumed he had truly been mistaken.

Inside, Sang Qian watched Zu'an's hand on the inner side of the coffin lid with wide eyes, filled with admiration. He was truly too astute; he had anticipated Han Fengqiu would test if the coffin lid had been opened.

Crucially, Han Fengqiu was a peak ninth-grade master. Although he certainly wouldn't push with full force, keeping the coffin lid completely still against his push was not something just anyone could do.

"Alright, alright, look at where we are; be serious!" Han Fengqiu interjected, stopping their horseplay. "Everyone, go guard outside. Has Qiuyue arrived yet?"

Zu'an's heart stirred. Qiuyue was the Qi King's concubine's personal maid.

"She's here!" Soon, a guard led a few maids over.

Han Fengqiu nodded and said to Qiuyue and the others: "The few of you will guard here for the next few days. No one is allowed to approach, especially Zu'an. If anything happens, just shout."

After all, this was where the Qi King's concubine's body lay, preserved by a cold ice formation that kept her appearance unchanged from when she was alive. Therefore, it was inconvenient for the guards to stand by, and these maids were the most suitable.

Qiuyue glanced at the coffin in the center of the mourning hall, her face a bit pale: "Master Han, today is the seventh day, the day spirits return home. They shouldn't see people they knew in life, or else they'll linger in the human world and be reluctant to depart in peace."

Han Fengqiu frowned: "That's all nonsense; don't believe any of it. With so many people guarding with you, and patrolling guards outside, what are you afraid of?"

Chided by him, Qiuyue looked wronged, but due to her low status, she dared not argue and could only agree.

Han Fengqiu looked around again. After confirming there were no anomalies, he led his people away.

It wasn't carelessness on his part; it was simply unimaginable that the heavily guarded Qi King's mansion could be infiltrated. His decision to bring people to stand guard tonight was already an extraordinary precaution.

Hearing the commotion outside, Sang Qian quietly asked: "What do we do now?"

Zu'an replied: "Let's get some sleep."

Sang Qian: "???"

She was about to ask further, but then she saw Zu'an had already closed his eyes and was fast asleep.

Being intelligent, she immediately understood his intention. With guards still around and having just experienced the skirt incident, this was when they were most vigilant.

Only by waiting until after midnight, when people were most fatigued and their long-tense nerves had relaxed, would it be the best time to leave.

Knowing that, however, sleeping in a coffin next to a corpse still felt eerie.

She looked back at the Qi King's concubine's body, but ultimately chose to snuggle closer into Zu'an's embrace.

In such a confined space, being so close to a young man and feeling his masculine presence, it was inevitable for various complex thoughts to arise in her mind.

Objectively speaking, he was indeed an excellent man in all aspects. However, he was the Chu family's son-in-law, and it seemed he also had an ambiguous relationship with her sister-in-law. How could she possibly get involved with him? It wouldn't be fair to her brother...

Lost in these thoughts, she unconsciously nestled into Zu'an's embrace and fell asleep.
